Fashionably Late Highlights from Charleston Fashion Week!
New friends thanks to Charleston Fashion Week! Stylists Jess James & Brooke Williams (Photo: Obed Danjoint) Last Thursday, three nights in at Charleston Fashion Week, I was determined to send out my FASHION FIX – even after a long night of sartorial adventures with my new friend stylist Brooke Williams. Our night began early with a behind the scenes meet-and-greet with last year’s Charleston Fashion Week emerging designer winner Afriyie’s all-star team and ended with a nightcap St. Germaine cocktail at Prohibition (the official after-party). Full disclosure: I must admit I fell asleep while editing photos somewhere in the wee...
Time for some new britches at Charleston’s Pretend Store
STATE founder and designer Adrienne Antonson Seeing designer Adrienne Antonson’s collection STATE for the first time at Charleston Fashion Week in March 2012, you instinctively knew you were seeing something different. Between the garments’ raw beauty, sustainability and utilitarian aesthetic paired with Adrienne’s luminosity, “IT” was happening and she just just seemed so damn cool. I met Adrienne in passing that week through mutual friends but heard from her a few months later asking if she could send one of my photos she loved from her show’s finale for a piece in DailyCandy. Naturally I was flattered and secretly pleased...
Charleston Designer You Need to Know + WIN her earrings!
Around the time of Charleston Fashion Week, several bold textured gold rings from Christina Jervey Jewelry first caught my eye in Ayoka Lucas’s white themed spring fashion spreadin Charleston Magazine.  Next, my friend Deirdre tagged me in a photo of Christina Jervey pyramid stud earrings on Instagram knowing how I have a thing for triangles. Since then, I’ve noticed Christina’s gold structural statement pieces on the fingers and wrists of Charleston’s fashion set including the likes of Charleston Shop Curator Andrea Serrano and Look Linger Love’s Chassity Evans. Recently selected as a runner-up in Garden & Gun magazine’s“Made in the South” contest, Christina is quickly becoming a Southern designer to...

SG *FASHION FIX* – Style Profile with Tonight’s CFW Emerging Designer Siobhan!
Charleston Fashion Week Emerging Designer Siobhan Murphy under the tents Tuesday night – catch her show TONIGHT!    When I first met Siobhan, she was interning for Candy Shop Vintage and helping Deirdre sell her jewelry at my Charleston Style Swap. Easily the best dressed in a vintage disco-ready silver hued jumpsuit, she purchased a backless Jean Paul Gaultier white blouse from my vintage collection that day. I immediately was impressed. Girl knows her vintage! And with her signature style and a  name like Siobhan, she’s hard to forget.   Around this same time, Siobhan launched ReTulled Tutus, a couture and ready-to-wear tutu...

SG *FASHION FIX* – 2012 Magic Moments: Looking Back Before Moving Ahead
It’s been an incredibly difficult past few weeks losing our precious dog Buster and now my beloved Nana.  I have not yet embraced moving forward into 2013 so I thought I might get inspired by first taking a look back at some of 2012′s more magical moments. Here’s hoping for brighter days. Thank you for your prayers and comforting words. xo, Jess   One of my favorite portraits of Nana from the 1940′s         2nd Annual Great Gatsby Gala     Held at The City Club  and presented this year by this night of Jazz Age...

My friend Deirde Zahl and I squealed as we left the Charleston Fashion Week kick-off party at Billy Reid. And get this – she said she was interested in seeing some pieces from Candy Shop Vintage, Deirdre’s Charleston-based vintage jewelry collection (read the...
SG *FASHION FIX* – Jess + Gay’s Adventures at SXSW in Austin
AUSTIN SXSW 2012     By: Jess James & Gay Adair   Gay: Let’s just get this out of the way..South By Southwest (or “SouthBy as the locals say), the gigantic music festival in Austin, Texas each spring, is a blast.  I’ll go back.  Before we got there, the word all round went like this, “The festival is not what it used to be, ruined.”  And, “Way too many people;  go to Austin at another time” and, ” Miss the craziness, you can’t get food or drinks and the traffic is unbelievable!” As Jess wryly commented, “Gayyyyy, come on. That sounds like...
