MJ Tribute
mj2
As I sat down with a mango martini at REEDS Jewelers Rebecca jewelry line launch, I was asked, “Did you hear that Michael Jackson is dead?” I thought for sure it was a cruel joke. How can a living legend – the King of Pop, the superfluous Peter Pan – make an exit without an encore?

“Do you remember the time?” I was seven years old and my sticker book was filled with glittery “I love Michael” decals. I hand-glued my own solo sequined white glove and tried in vain to moonwalk. Through the years, I can’t count the number of times I’ve pleaded with the DJ to play my favorite MJ anthem – “PYT.”

After the news sent shockwaves across the world, British Foreign Secretary David Miliband said it best in his Tweet: “Never has one soared so high and yet dived so low.”

Michael certainly had his share of instability between the child molestation charges, baby dangling and excessive plastic surgery, but he was a legend in his own right with a four-decade career including the highest-selling album of all-time, “Thriller.” As the ultimate chameleon, he’s also something of a style icon – having a particularly strong influence in the 80′s – a decade which is currently having a bit of a moment.

As a sartorial tribute to Michael, here’s a few key looks that are so bad they’re good:

1)    black skinny pants
2)    strong shoulder
3)    sequined cardigan
4)    military / band leader-style jacket
5)    accessorize with zippers
6)    incorporate red leather – a handbag, a jacket or earrings
7) fedora
8)    bling on your fingertips
9)    white summer socks
