The oh-so-transitional jumpsuit – not to be confused with “jumpers,” the English term for sweaters, is heating up the runways this Spring. From Chloe, Lanvin and Gucci to Marysia’s silk chiffon peach confection jumpsuit at Charleston Fashion Week, it’s evident this version of the playsuit is not just for kids.
You may have worn one in elementary school, but rest assured it was nothing like the sexy Halston version Jerry Hall sizzled in on the dance floor at Studio 54 in the Seventies.
With a plunging neckline and silky sheen along with a strong heel, a jumpsuit can take you to new stylish heights for a night out on the town. Due to its versatility, it’s also the epitome of easy dressing for day by taking it down a notch with a cotton blazer and gladiator sandals.
There’s also the jumpsuit’s undeniably cute short-legged sister, the romper. Think less Chrissy from Three’s Company and more Kate Moss at Glastonbury.
Here’s a few tips for finding the jumpsuit that will make you jump-for-joy:
1) The most important thing to look for is fabric and fit. Choose a fabric that breathes and make sure you pick a jumpsuit with plenty of length to accommodate your torso.
2) If you opt for a military-inspired jumpsuit, elevate this workman onesie by offsetting its masculinity with a few bohemian touches: a lace-trimmed tank top underneath, neutral peep-toes, wood bangles and feather earrings.
3) If you’re ready for a romper, try an airy floral or muted batik print. For day, pair it with flat booties and a denim jacket. For colder temperatures, layer a pair of opaque leggings and for evening, add a statement necklace, wedges and the ultimate accessory – confidence.
