The Care Project red carpet hosts James + Dunne greet
Artist Wendy Kowalski on stilts at The Cameron Art Museum

Shannon and I spent last Saturday night getting glamorous and hosting the red carpet at The Care Project’s 2nd Annual Extravaganza. Produced by Dr. Johnnie Sexton, CARE Project Founder and Executive Director and co-hosted by WECT’s Frances Weller, the event raised over $35,000 for emotional counseling and support services for families in eastern North Carolina with children who are deaf or hard of hearing.

“We do what we do in hopes that the children who are born deaf have an equal opportunity at happiness and success in life…and that starts with helping their parents move forward on their emotional journey.”

Held at The Cameron Art Museum, the celebratory tone of the evening was set with Carnivale artists on stilts, glow-in-the-dark hoola hoops and juggling gypsies who prefer knives to balls. Guests enjoyed delicious delicacies from Pine Valley Market and Cafe Johnnie and live music from The Tigger Clarkson Band.

Besides the host crew (“Frances Weller was certainly one of my top picks and you and Shannon were stunning!”), Johnnie shared his picks for the evening’s “Best Dressed:”

1.  Sonda Joffe

2. Ashley Teachey

3. Kelly Starbuck

4. Robin Hosley

5. Torri Winstead

6. Gina Bell

7. Wylene Booth McDonald
