Enjoying the view in Colorado

I’m pretty certain I haven’t seen the Colorado rockies since I was on the verge of adolescence and certainly have not survived (ahem, taken) a vacation with my parents since I lived under their roof. So, I figured we might be “right on time” for both when my parents invited Joel and I to join them for their second summer at the Rocky Mountain Folks Festival in Lyons, Colorado.

I thought I’d share with you some of our adventures as well as our experiences as “festivarians” as my mom likes to say.

Between elk spotting, scouring Indian jewelry and enjoying music from the likes of Dawes, Amos Lee, Iron & Wine and Lyle Lovett barefoot by day and under a blanket of stars by night, we met a self-proclaimed “rainmaker.” The wise owner of my favorite Lyons antique shop Left Hand Trading Antiques clapped his hands when he found out my mom hailed from New Jersey and I from North Carolina. “There was a mother and daughter just in here about an hour ago. The mother was from New Jersey. The daughter from North Carolina, but she’s moving to Boulder in a month. When are you moving here?”

Hated to rain on his parade but I’ll enjoy a biennial Rocky Mountain summer for now.

First stop after leaving the airport – Red Rocks.
I will return to see a show here – one day!

Spotted a massive elk on the opposite side of the street. No biggie.

Tie-Dye resurgence… why not?

As 50 Shades author E.L. James would say, I’m finding my “inner hippie.”
Wearing: Mama’s tie-dye sarong, vintage embroidered crop top from
A Second Time Around, Lori Wyatt Vintage turban and sandals from Lilies & Lace

Children of all ages come out to play.

R: Festival Trend: hippie pouch belts
(she was there with Buffalo Exchange – don’t mind if I do!)

With my parents meeting the wonderful singer/songwriter
Ellis. My dad describes seeing her live as “life-changing.”
Check out her album “Right on Time.”

L: Had to break out my vintage Mexican wedding dress for festival wear.
R:  Turns out Joel and I were not the only festivarians from Wilmington there!

Peace, see ya later. Till next time, Colorado!
