Vintage-inspired Holiday Portrait styled by James + Dunne
featuring client Lisa Sledzik and husband Dave
Photography: Ethan Gaskill
Before we get into the best Black Friday deals and steals, I wanted to share a response to last week’s Fashion Fix from Realtor Lisa Sledzik:
“I just read your Fashion Fix, and I may have a bit of a wild hair. I was going to skip Christmas cards (yes!) this year as my kids are older (24 and 18), and the younger one is in Denver for school. Then I saw your holiday card photo shoot ad and thought maybe that would be fun for just Dave and I. I like doing the unexpected and making people laugh/smile.”
There was a lot of smiling and laughing when Shannon and I (otherwise known as James + Dunne Styling), took a peek in Lisa and Dave’s closet that evening to prepare for their photo shoot the next morning (they are leaving for London this week, so time was of the essence).
They swore they did not have anything “cool or vintage,” but based on their beautiful home and devil-may-care personae, we were not convinced. Soon enough, we were holding court in their closet. Shannon and I quickly uncovered a gorgeous 1940’s era red wool coat with white fur trim hanging untouched. Lisa received it from her grandmother decades ago. As she slipped it on and we saw how perfectly the pleated-closure hugged her waist, we told her it was a sin to put this kind of beauty to waste!
We shrieked in delight when we found a 1960’s cream maxi dress with an embellished bodice and dramatic train hiding underneath a garment bag. Lisa said she picked it up in a vintage store in Chicago years ago but had yet to wear it.
Since Dave was not to be out-dressed, we found a herringbone blazer and khakis. To add a dose of Wes Anderson-style quirkiness, we pulled rainbow striped socks and a fur-trimmed hat. Feeling inspired, Lisa suggested she don her Wellies with the ballgown. Cheers to that!
We spent several hours the next day with Lisa & Dave frolicking in a field of gold along MLK Parkway and finished our day on one of Shannon’s favorite iconic bridges downtown.
Please see some of our favorite shots and behind-the-scenes coverage from Photographer Ethan Gaskill below. Not only for our day with Lisa & Dave, but our first shoot of the season with the amazing Dunne kids (plus their beautiful dog Izzy and pet hampster!)
Our holiday style portrait series are inspired by the Wes Anderson-esque shoot I photographed two years ago. This time around, we are teaming up with photographer Ethan Gaskill to style vintage-inspired holiday portraits that capture your family/kids’ spirit but with an editorial feeling.
We had been offering a special discount for those who booked portraits BEFORE Thanksgiving, but since our shoots don’t have to be holiday specific, we have decided to extend a special discount to FASHION FIX readers as a special Thank You. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
And, keep scrolling down to see some AMAZING Black Friday Shopping you won’t want to miss. That, I can promise you!
Wishing you and yours a wonderful Thanksgiving full of love, family, friends & holiday cheer!
Thank you so much for reading along each week. I am truly so grateful.
