Three years ago as I was perusing all the creatively reimagined pillows, recycled found object pendants and dazzling jewelry boxes at La La Land’s former shop in the Old Wilmington City Market (Lisa’s handmade gifts are now for sale at Ziabird), I picked up a postcard for the Raleigh-based event, The Handmade Market. I was instantly smitten with their punchy aesthetic and cheeky slogan:
This past weekend, I finally got to go. Shannon and I just so happened to be in town to do some wardrobe editing and shopping for a new Raleigh-based James + Dunne client. Just as we were setting off, I got a message from Kitty Kinnin, 100.7 The River’s uber-popular morning radio host, insisting that since we were going to be in town, we had to stop by The Handmade Market. You don’t have to tell me twice!

Now that the holidays are approaching, more and more people are thinking not only of shopping local (subscribe to the 3/50 project!), but they are seeking out meaningful, one-of-a-kind gifts. Nothing says heartfelt like handmade. Cucalorus: Nov 11-15
Cucalorus, named one of the “Top 25 Coolest Film Festivals” by Moviemaker Magazine, is celebrating its 15th anniversary as an international film festival. Cucalorus provides a forum where film becomes a player in the social and political arena and offers a new voice for the South. Over 10,000 tickets were sold in 2008 and over 130 films will screen this week -
