The first time I debuted a Closet Confessions video was three years ago when I interviewed my 92-year-old Nana dressed in one of her favorite yellow Butte Knit suits (Click HERE to watch). So many people to this day ask where my love for fashion stems from. My mom, who never put much emphasis on her personal style, will be the first to admit it skipped a generation whereas my Nana cherished her special pieces in her (seven!) closets decades after she could zipper herself into them.
After my Nana passed away, with my extended closet-in-the-kitchen already brimming at the seams, I reluctantly decided to sell a few of my Nana’s pieces in my Style Girl Vintage collection that were not my size, including her yellow Closet Confessions knit suit.
The first time I heard Pat Kusek’s name, she was described as the very elegant woman who fell in love with my Nana’s yellow knit suit and took it home that day (from Tickled Pink, where I had my vintage collection at Lumina Station before it moved to its current location at Aqua Fedora).
It was only a matter of time that Pat and I would meet and become “fast friends over fashion.”
She arrived at my Great Gatsby Premiere Party turning heads all night long as her cream beaded fringe dress attempted to keep time with her vivacious energy and her husband Walter’s swag-for-days. After taking in the flapper dress paired perfectly with her beaded fringe headpiece and statement pearls (from aMuse) and the finishing touch- retro inspired stockings with seams up the back – it’s no surprise she took home the prize for “Best Dressed” that evening.

Several months later, her business Kusek Financial Group came on board as presenting sponsor for my annual Great Gatsby Gala at The City Club and she’s been out-dressing everyone at my events ever since!
As it turns out, Pat’s passion for fashion is not a new thing. On a recent birthday, she shared a newspaper clipping from her hometown newspaper with the title “Patricia Shuping Going on Eight, has a Party.” The precocious 7-year-old fashionista apparantly hosted her guests wearing “a dark plaid winter cotton dress and red leotards.”
I have a feeling not every 7-year-old in red leotards saw their name in newsprint – let alone detailing their outfit of the day (#ootd)!
Since Pat loves a designer deal just as much as I do and she shared with me her source for the majority of her coveted vintage Chanel bags (hint: the real real – Click Here if you dare. Just don’t say I didn’t warn you!), I was eager to see what other gems she had hiding in her closet.
And of course, it’s not just any closet. I’m talking Mr. BIG for Carrie Bradshaw kind of closet. You must see for yourself. Click HERE to watch Pat’s Closet Confession captured by Rebekah of The Three Divas.
