CHECK IT OUT! Wilmington’s own “Style Girl” Jess James hosts the annual Fall Fashion Preview, presented by Cape Fear Jewelry, at Blue Hand Home for an evening of fashion, beauty and design. “Pretty Wom(e)n” from the Wilmington community – from their 20′s to their 80′s – showcase the season’s most sought-after trends and how to “make it work” at any age.

Last weekend, I made my way to Greenville, South Carolina for the very
first time to attend G Magazine’s first annual “Fashion
Greenville” event. Driving downtown on a Friday night, we
passed swarms of  families and couples walking hand-in-hand
enjoying the fall air and a bit of late night shopping. Who knew that
downtown Greenville shops at night? I took this as the first sign of
Greenville’s vibrancy. After parking on Main & Coffee, we made
our way past a lively drum circle and into the the expansive white tent
beckoning the town’s fashion set.

Taking the edge off after the 5-hour drive, I indulged in a frozen
margarita while checking out  artist Ric Standridge’s pop-up
studio where he enthusiastically painted live canvases on models
wearing dresses donated by local vintage shop The Clothing Warehouse (where I
spent over an hour combing their racks the following afternoon).

G pulled off an impressive production with a high energy, high gloss event complete with hip-hop violinist Daniel D (who also brought downthe house at Charleston
Fashion Week), 58 models, a few hundred guests and local
personalities mingling with celebrity guest Lynne
Curtin of The Real Housewives of Orange County and her
entourage.  The runway shows were heavy with retailers
featuring stand-out shows from Hampden Clothing (always one of my
most anticipated shows at Charleston Fashion Week) styled by owner and
Greenville native Stacy Smallwood, as well as original evening attire
by local couture designer Gregory Ellenburg.

From the fashion tents to Falls Park,  Greenville as a fashion
destination is a new trend I look forward to revisiting.

Gretchen takes the gold! I certainly love Mondo’s bravado, but my vote
was with winner Gretchen Jones’ cohesive collection that epitomizes the
easy, breezy effortless chic of a Topanga Canyon chick with a sexy
seventies vibe. And, that jewelry is AMAZING.

Serendipitously enough, I arrived in London just in time to take in the last day of London Fashion Week. Running on fashion fumes after an overnight flight where I indulged in The Tudors instead of getting some sleep, I call this jaunt “Sleepless in Somerset (House), where the majority of the fashion set gathered after the last runway show.

Overall, the LFW street chic style was fabulous with occasional glimpses of “mind the gap” mentality dividing the sartorially gifted from the fashion victims (remember to limit two trends per outfit!). Although, one of the most beautiful things I’ve found in fashion week culture is the inclusive nature and common language celebrating the thin line between outrageous and outrageously chic.

Last Thursday, I joined Briana Brough, staff photographer for Chapel Hill and Durham Magazines, at The Art Institute’s
Fashion Night Out. The Art Institute students partnered with FashionSPARK designers, including AI Professors Jessica Palmer and Patrizia Ferreira of Jess Pati, to document the creative process in developing their line.

for a month. Because she had no contact with the “outside world,” she turned to yoga and music to fill her free time. She quickly realized that every song she heard reminded her of him. More mixed CDs went into the mail, this time with sweet letters and a promise of a rendezvous as soon as possible. When the time finally came and she first saw his

We shared exciting work stories, went camping, played pool and even

“Greg and I met in a high school algebra II class. That was two and a half years ago and we are now together and stronger than ever! Greg is a Marine based in California and I live here in Missouri so we only get to see each other a few times a year. He got back from Iraq last fall
