As I made my way toward the runway during Charleston Fashion Week, the sway of swishing multi-colored beaded fringe captivated my attention. There before me was one of my favorite looks from the entire week – a lightweight, linen ivory summer vest – worn by a PYT in line for a cocktail. From the front, it appeared a somewhat understated summer essential. From the back came the surprise. As she made a slightly exaggerated turn, the long suede pieces covered in iridescent blue beads, danced before my eyes.
I had to ask – “Where did you get this?” She responded, “Oh, in Birmingham at a boutique called Swank.”

Several months back on a cold, dreary day while we were dreaming of an Indian Summer, this season’s racks are answering our prayers. In the tribal vibrations from the saturated colors and Aztec and ikat prints, we find the promise of rising temperatures. As you may already know, I have somewhat of a fetish for feathers. I also gravitate to braided details, ethnic patterns and intricate embroidery.
