Style Profile – Amanda deLeon
I recently spent some time with Fashion Designer and former Wilmington resident Amanda deLeon in her adopted home in New Orleans. It’s hard to forget her avant garde designs, creative mind and platinum blond hair. This Louisiana native is now a redhead, but swears, “I’ve had my hair every color of the rainbow and I’m still the same person.” Several recent highlights include a potential editorial in Vogue Japan, a nod on UK blog kingdomofstyle and now, she’s preparing for the next NOLA Fashion Week in October. Amanda’s future may be looking bright, but she still wears the same shades....

SG *FASHION FIX* – Street Style with the Willy Wonka of The Wonder Shop
Photos: Jess James   Spotting Kelsey Gibbs, Etsy power seller (check out Tractordog), at a fashion show last summer, I requested to feature her in the Style Fix to find out more about her fabulous mix of sequins, silk and lace. Setting a photo shoot date for this week, we decided to meet in front of the location of her soon-to-be shop, The Wonder Shop, at 22 North Front Street. After parking, she texted: “I don’t think I’ve ever worn sequins this side of noon!” With the sun glinting off her high-waisted sequined shorts, I met her in front of the empty storefront, marked “Mademoiselle” in faded tiles on...

SG *FASHION FIX* – Insider Tips from Blake Lively’s Costume Designer in New Film
Photo: Jess James Location: Joe Dunton Cameras   I recently had the pleasure of meeting Costume Designer Erika Munro, a statuesque beauty with wavy locks and signature shade of red lipstick, for French 75 cocktails at manna, and a few weeks later, a behind the scenes look in the costume department. Set up in the back of Joe Dunton Cameras, Erika’s staff packed up fringed cowboy boots and shoulder padded and sequined remnants from the 80′s culled for the Wilmington-based film Hick starring Blake Lively, Chloe Moretz and Juliette Lewis. Munro, a New Yorker in Wilmington for the first time, stayed in an old cottage on Wrightsville Beach...

SG *FASHION FIX* – Why You Need a High/Low Skirt this Spring
High-Low skirt from LF Stores L: Actress Isabel Lucas in a maxi dress with lace crop top at Coachella R: San Fran blogger from On the Racks in a billowy high-low top   We can all agree that some of the most creative dressing involves the right mix of high and low… a little YSL with J.Crew and a few vintage pieces thrown in. This Spring, as a take on the maxi skirt, I’m loving the high-low options. As a tall girl, minis can be more risky business than right on. When I recently strolled downtown in my high-low skirt (shown below) en route to...

SG *FASHION FIX* – Who Cares About the Royal Wedding?
COUNTDOWN 1 week from The Royal Wedding The Royal Wedding will be held at Westminster Abbey, where Diana’s funeral was held 13 years prior. For all the die-hard Royalphiles out there who plan on being up at 4:30am in their jammies with a cup of tea, there are plenty of folks wanting to know, “What’s the big deal?” I’ve always been fascinated with the pomp and circumstance surrounding the Monarchy and after spending my last semester of college...

SG *FASHION FIX* – Sharp Dressed Man Trends for 2011 + Social Chic
On a rare freezing cold day in Wilmington before Christmas, I arrived at the Focus on the Coast bachelor spread to find one of our bachelors – who is undoubtedly tall, dark and handsome – had brought along a black button down shirt (as opposed to the dark hoodie he had on) and asked my opinion on which to wear. Naturally, I opted for the black dress shirt with his dark denim but inquired about his shoes. He looked down at his flip flops and informed me, “These are it.” I shared this experience with Kellie Woodbury, style arbiter and...
