SG *FASHION FIX* – Photo Travel Diary: Headed North
Travel Essential: my Casey Crespo handmade, organic, fleece-lined colorblock leggings! I wore them at least three times in nine days, plus as pajama pants. They are highly addictive and the ultimate in comfort chic!   Driving north for my Nana’s funeral with overwhelming loss weighing heavy in our hearts, I couldn’t help but miss the unmistakable cadence of Buster’s bullet breath behind us in the backseat. Luckily, we had the welcome distraction of a book on CD, “Unbroken” by Laura Hillenbrand, graciously purchased for us by our friend Steve Ward in prepartion for our long journey to Pennsylvania.   If you have yet...

SG *FASHION FIX* – 2012 Magic Moments: Looking Back Before Moving Ahead
It’s been an incredibly difficult past few weeks losing our precious dog Buster and now my beloved Nana.  I have not yet embraced moving forward into 2013 so I thought I might get inspired by first taking a look back at some of 2012’s more magical moments. Here’s hoping for brighter days. Thank you for your prayers and comforting words. xo, Jess   One of my favorite portraits of Nana from the 1940’s         2nd Annual Great Gatsby Gala     Held at The City Club  and presented this year by DreamCarSource.com this night of Jazz Age...

SG *FASHION FIX* – How to Channel Your Inner Superhero in Style!
Caped crusader Roxanne Turpen of Amazing Capes seeks contributors for her Kickstarter campaign with a promise to save the world through the power of imagination one cape at a time. Albert Einstein once said, “Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.” This philosphy is evident in Roxanne Turpen’s passion project, Amazing Capes. Roxanne, a former Wilmington resident now based in Asheville, is a talented photographer, graphic artist, ethereal free spirit along with the saving grace behind my website (www.stylegirljessjames.com) – making it “pretty” week after week. While she has the spirit of a vagabond, her commitment to...

SG *FASHION FIX* – Win a Merewif Necklace + Best Dressed Audrey & Disco Queens
Wilmington-based Jewelry Designer Savannah Watson wearing a variety of pieces from her newly-launched jewelry collection, Merewif I first met Savannah via Facebook. A Wilmington native with an emerging career in fashion, she was contemplating making the move back home from LA, and looking for advice. We all know the catch to living in Wilmington. It’s a beautiful place to live, but a hard place to make a living.   Several months later, we met at one of my Fashion Preview events. Savannah happened to be in town and decided to get a firsthand look at the Wilmington fashion community. Currently employed...

*FASHION FIX* Because You Look Like You Give a Damn: 3 Essentials for 007 Style
Daniel Craig as James Bond in the latest 007 film, Skyfall   For 50 years, men have wanted to be him and women have wanted to be with him. Who is this master of seduction?   Bond, James Bond. (you know I had to do that. It’s a requirement for writing any Bond-themed piece.)   With the release of the franchise’s 23rd 007 film “Skyfall” hitting released last week, it’s time to take another look at what makes 007 so alluring. Besides his coolness under pressure, fancy toys, bravado and of course the Bond bombshells, it’s Bond’s enduring style that continues to make...

SG *FASHION FIX* – 5 questions for a Jewelry Designer you can meet tomorrow!
New Emily Claire fringed shield bracelet Jewelry Designer Claire Jacobs  is bringing to her Trunk Show at Ziabird this Saturday   As I was making my rounds pulling clothes for the Fall Fashion Preview, I came across a Parisian-based clothing line Lauren Vidal at Ziabird at Lumina Station, that immediately struck my fancy. Each piece has clean lines, feminine silhouettes but with exquisite details like the leather trim on the poncho (which I discovered first on my hair stylist Cheryl Kent) or the sheer black overlay over the knit tank dress. Trying on my favorite Lauren Vidal pieces...

SG *FASHION FIX* – PHOTOS: Partying like it's 1929 at 2nd Annual Great Gatsby!
Dressed to party like it’s 1929 at The 2nd Annual Great Gatsby Gala Although last Friday September 20th marked the 2nd Annual Gatsby Gala at The City Club (presented by Ben Swaim of DreamCarSource.com), there were certainly quite a few firsts. I made my debut as a platinum blonde with a 1920’s inspired bob wig from Coco Coquette in Austin. We had Charleston guests in the house (holla!). Our wide-eyed innocent young Daisy (photographer Lisa Brown’s beautiful daughter Isabele) saw her first burlesque show in the City Club’s Speakeasy. My dad put on a tuxedo for what most likely was the first time ever...
