STYLE GIRL “FASHION FIX”
My new intern Danielle Dewar recently spent some time in Manhattan. Instead of following up with pretty young things that made the pilgrimage from Wilmington to New York, she decided to profile her latest style icon, which happens to be her best friend’s grandmother. Since Closet Confessions originally debuted with a style profile on my own Nana and I’m an enthusiastic champion for all young-at-heart women with “Advanced Style,” I was all about it! Take it away, Danielle - Just four years ago I met my best friend Caitlin, in which a friendship was born...
I recently spent some time with Fashion Designer and former Wilmington resident Amanda deLeon in her adopted home in New Orleans. It’s hard to forget her avant garde designs, creative mind and platinum blond hair. This Louisiana native is now a redhead, but swears, “I’ve had my hair every color of the rainbow and I’m still the same person.” Several recent highlights include a potential editorial in Vogue Japan, a nod on UK blog kingdomofstyle and now, she’s preparing for the next NOLA Fashion Week in October. Amanda’s future may be looking bright, but she still wears the same shades....
Who knew you had to escape to New Orleans to beat the heat. As Joel mixed up his signature “Moonshine Smash” (try it at Manna) at The Hotel Monteleone for Tales of the Cocktail, I reconnected with two former Wilmington stylemavens – fashion designer Amanda deLeon and Helen Howell, Island Passage’s favorite calendar girl in 85-degree weather while the rest of the North and Southeast sweltered. In preparing for any hot-weather holiday, I made sure to include a new favorite dress (a Mike Gonzalez dress from Oliver with pyramid detailing), a pair of statement earrings (Iosselliani earrings from Beanie + Cecil), my favorite...
You know you’ve got it bad when you’re daydreaming about denim in 105-degree weather. You can’t help but turn the heat up a notch when you’re wearing either pair of Style Girl’s favorite jeans for the season. A summer romance is sure to ensue whether you opt for “The Drama,” Mother jeans’ 70′s revival, boho chic denim wide-leg trouser (available at Oliver) or J. Brand’s red skinny jeans (available at Beanie + Cecil), the red-hot alternative to summer’s ho-hum staple white jeans. Here are some tips for rockin’ summer denim’s most covetable silhouettes and colors. WIDE LEG: * The vintage blue wash on The Drama looks...

So, you’ve been getting your weekly fashion fix but what about your Mad Men fix? Typically, the new season debuts in early August but due to contract negotiation hiccups, the word is we won’t be seeing Don Draper until April 2012. Le, sigh…. Since I typically only get cable exclusively for Mad Men, I decided I couldn’t wait any longer for cable or for a little Draper swagger, Betty’s feminine frocks and Joanie’s head-turning curves. In partnering with the Hilton Garden Inn, we decided to host a high-style, Mid Century inspired “We Miss Mad Men” event giving fans a Mad Men fix that would even impress the likes...
