Taking Overalls from the Farm to Fashion + Insta Moments
This is me toasting the start to my summer holiday with a “Summer Babe” gin cocktail on the rooftop bar of The Wythe Hotel in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Can’t beat the view and the feeling of freedom at the start of an adventure. From my airplane seat (where I got a bit stir crazy during our two hour delay on the landing strip) to the Wythe, I based my travel look around my slightly “destroyed” overalls. Not to be confused with a Green Acres gal (read Natalie Joos “I’m Not a Farm Girl” overalls post here) , I chose to “elevate”...

Meet Hannah, BANG-in' out social change one shoe at a time!
A few years back, I had the privilege of meeting Hannah Davis in Charleston shortly after she developed her first pair of BANGS shoes. Inspired by the look of the simple olive green, army-style shoes she saw workers and farmers wearing during her year abroad in China, she set out to launch a socially-minded shoe line connected to the non-profit community. The name BANGS is derived from the Chinese character for the word “help,” phonetically spelled b-a-n-g. This dynamic entrepreneur is determined to affect lasting change in the world one shoe at a time. Find out how you can help...

Sharing a personal 4th of July memory + MAD MEN, Hippie Ball Photos
I may be practicing my Miss America wave here, but I promise you I have never been a pageant girl. This photo was taken at the 4th of July parade in my hometown of Woodstown, NJ the summer of my senior year of high school. Since I was Woodstown’s Prom Queen, I was among several “queens” from the county displayed on vintage cars towards the end of the parade. This particular 4th of July is one of my favorite Independence Day memories. It could have been because it was my senior year and I had the chance to sort of...

Style Profile: Cory Chisel
To hear my interview with Cory Chisel click the play button below. Cory Chisel Interview Back in March, I received an email from Billy Mellon. Some people may know Billy as the charismatic owner of downtown restaurant manna. Beyond that, he is one of the major driving forces behind Wilmington Unplugged, an initiative dedicated to bringing new artists to Wilmington and encouraging rising musicians to come back and stay awhile. Billy sent me a somewhat cryptic message: “Wanted to see if I could count on you for a little publicity for a big musical event that I am organizing for...

Interview with MAD MEN Costume Designer Janie Bryant!
Although MAD MEN Season 6 is set in the late 60’s, each character maintains their own signature style developed by Costume Designer Janie Bryant over the past several seasons. Don sticks to his classic suits and striped ties while Joan continues to give new meaning to the “wiggle” dress. Peggy is putting some polish to her mod skirt suits and adding a bit of panache with neck ties and berets while Megan and Harry Crane (MAD MEN’s most fashion-forward characters) really bring a touch of the 70’s with graphic prints, go go boots, mini skirts, bell bottoms and even a...

SG *FASHION FIX* Floral Fixation + Expert tips on How to Protect Your Skin

SG *FASHION FIX* Style Profile: Chicago Jewelry Designer brings her ombre jewelry to town
“Fari” Lariat: oxidized sterling plated brass chains My favorite piece from Jewelry Designer Ellen Arthur Available now at Ziabird   Several months back, Lynn Manock, the owner at Ziabird, lit up when I walked into the store and said, “I’ve got to show you something you’re going to love!”   She pulled out her phone to show me photos of work from her new Chicago based jewelry designer Ellen Arthur. I gasped as I saw photo after photo of these dramatic oxidized ombre chain necklaces just begging to be styled as a modern day flapper.   A fairly new jewelry...

SG *FASHION FIX* Frock Tales: The story of an heirloom ring that (almost) got away!
The lucky star ring that was just meant to be. Photo: Kelly Starbuck   Sometimes you hear something that instantly gives you goosebumps.   As someone with a fondness for vintage and the history and sentimental value attached to a particular dress or in this case, an heirloom piece of jewelry – this is a “Frocktales” story I decided needed to be shared.   Recently, my friend and local photographer Kelly Starbuck and I were discussing how we were both not “a loser of things.” We all have a friend who forgets her new purchase on the bus only hours...
