SG *FASHION FIX* – PHOTOS: Partying like it’s 1929 at 2nd Annual Great Gatsby!
Dressed to party like it’s 1929 at The 2nd Annual Great Gatsby Gala Although last Friday September 20th marked the 2nd Annual Gatsby Gala at The City Club (presented by Ben Swaim of DreamCarSource.com), there were certainly quite a few firsts. I made my debut as a platinum blonde with a 1920’s inspired bob wig from Coco Coquette in Austin. We had Charleston guests in the house (holla!). Our wide-eyed innocent young Daisy (photographer Lisa Brown’s beautiful daughter Isabele) saw her first burlesque show in the City Club’s Speakeasy. My dad put on a tuxedo for what most likely was the first time ever...

SG *FASHION FIX* – FASHION SPREAD: Great Gatsby Style!
Behind the Scenes from our Gatsby Gala Photo Shoot at The City Club on Labor Day    The 2nd Annual Great Gatsby Gala is now less than two weeks away. Are you ready to get your Gatsby on? I gathered up a group of my favorite friends and models for a Gatsby-inspired photo shoot at The City Club with Simon Vincent Arnold returning as Gatsby and Natalyn Wallin as our Daisy, Damien Buchanan as Tom Buchanan (natch), Damien’s sister Mairin as Jordan and manna’s Ian Murray as Nick Carraway.   Wesley Keeton and Paula Lemme at Rockin Roller Salon perfected the flapper pin curls while...

*FASHION FIX* – Style Profile + 2 transitional must-haves from summer to fall
Loose Threads boutique owner Laura Jasorka / Photo: Jess James   One of my dearest friends Melissa is coming to visit. We like to say we’re “godsisters” since our parents are best friends and also my godparents. I’ve known her for as long as I can remember. We used to lock ourselves away for hours staked out on her bunk bed with our bag full of barbies. Eventually, barbies gave way to boys, broken curfews, late-night dancing queens and bachelorette parties. She was the one who introduced me to Joel at fourteen that fated...

SG *FASHION FIX* – Style Profile: 4 HOT Summer Accessories
Collar necklaces ($27.95) from Mod in turquoise, ivory and peach Since we’re all getting a bit hot under the collar right now, I figured it was time to talk hottest summer accessories. I stopped in at Mod, Wilmington’s accessories hotspot on Market Street, and asked owner Annamaria Lookman to weigh in on her 4 fave summer trends.   1) Collars:   “For a super effortless look, wear the collar necklace with a plain t-shirt (looser crewneck). For a more fashion-forward look, there’s the double collar.”   2) Geometric / Tribal: “Wear your tribal or geometric accessories with flowy, boho high-low skirts or maxi....

*FASHION FIX* – What Joan Wore on MAD MEN + Why Charleston Should Care
Candy Shop Vintage’s “Trillium Set” worn by Joan Holloway in the latest episode of MAD MEN   One time at Fashion Week….   Something wonderful happened. My friend Deirde Zahl and I squealed as we left the Charleston Fashion Week kick-off party at Billy Reid. We had just met one of our style mentors, Award-winning Costume Designer for MAD MEN, the lovely Janie Bryant, who was in town as one of CFW’s celebrity runway judges for the emerging designer competition. And get this – she said she was interested in seeing some pieces from Candy Shop Vintage, Deirdre’s Charleston-based vintage jewelry collection (read the...

SG *FASHION FIX* – Style Girl's Birthday Skirt + Launch of Frocktales
My birthday skirt from All Saints Spitalfields     Do you ever find something that just speaks to you? Whether it’s a hand-crafted piece of jewelry, a painting or a first edition from one of your favorite authors, it’s bound to happen to you. The Newaz Skirt in Pistachio from All Saints Spitalfields started calling my name as soon as I spotted it on their website. To me, this skirt is a work of art. I love the sparkling sequins and how it encompasses my favorite design elements – tribal, Egyptian and deco –  all at once.   Naturally, there was a hunt...

Austin – SXSW 2012 (cont..)
Rule Breakers   Jess:   To escape, my friend Stella French (who was living in Austin for a few weeks leading up to the festival) and I decided we’d much rather join the fashionable folks we spotted on the balcony at The Driskill Hotel.   En route to the balcony, I spotted ShopBop Fashion Director Kate Ciepluch, an Instagram friend, who shared that she was there filming a secret project. Oh, the intrigue.   Stella and I climbed the marble staircase two steps at a time only to find that the balcony  was part of a private party hosted by...
